DUI Arrest Process in Baltimore

If you are arrested for driving under the influence in Baltimore, the following is what you should expect according to a Baltimore DUI lawyer. To discuss your charge or learn more about DUI in Maryland, call today and schedule a free consultation.

What happens after an arrest for driving under the influence depends on who arrests you. If it is a local officer, they will take you to a local police station. If it is the State Trooper, you can be taken to the barracks and that is where they would want to do preliminary tests and the intoxilyzer test.

They do it here because they feel it is a good local spot for you to be tested. So that is where you will be taken and then from there they can transport you to a commissioner. Sometimes they take you to the station or barracks, and as soon as they test you they let you go. Once in a blue moon you get a nice officer and they will drive you home.

I had a guy who got dropped off by an officer in a hotel because he had an out of state license. They are not going to take his license because it is not the property of the State of Maryland but they drove him to the hotel, towed his vehicle, gave him a location and told him it will available the next morning at 8 o’clock when they opened it. You do have some nice officers.

Sometimes they just drop you off somewhere where they know there is local transportation and that is it.

Can You Get a Lawyer for a Baltimore Bond Hearing?

You can get a lawyer for Baltimore bond hearings because bond hearings are done either at the commissioner’s office or right before you go in. So, you absolutely have the right to the local public defender. You don’t have to retain the public defender but you can at least have them represent you at the bond hearing. If you don’t want the public defender that is available but there is a private attorney who is doing some hours over there then you can get them. It is very important to go into the bond hearing with someone by your side. They know what to say.

Bond hearings are very direct and are done in a certain way that is very unique. For this reason, there are certain descript things that need to be said there and that is what these attorneys do very well because they have done so many of them, and they are doing them regularly. One of them can guide you the right way, so don’t be too proud to ask for help. It is a big deal. You don’t want to be in jail.

Make sure you have someone to speak on your behalf. Let your attorney get all that information and get it going. Don’t put yourself in a position where you end up having to pay a bond when you can be released, it’s usually better not to waste the money on bond, and instead spend that money on an experienced DUI lawyer.
